My 8 year old Pom has struggled with his hair most of his life. He hates being brushed by me and we unfortunately have had to shave him some years due to tangles. He has hair loss to his hind quarters. I notice the skin is black and will come off if soaked with coconut oil leaving pink skin underneath. I have had good luck with removing the black skin on his chest and hair regrowth in that area after a year. Curious if anyone else has had any experience with black skin disease and hair loss or finding any at home treatments since saying the cure isn’t known or not understood isn’t helping me or Benson. I have been doing weekly bald spot sugar and coconut oil scrubs on his hind quarters followed by warm towels to the area to absorb the oil into the skin. He does not mind the spa treatment since his skin is itchy anyway. I comb the hair/ bald spots after and the dark skin rubs off. Let’s find a cure for Pomeranian black skin disease!

Update! Significant hair regrowth! To the hind quarters and around the tail! He looks like a different dog - people no longer ask what is wrong with my beautiful dog! I want to share some pictures but I am not sure how on this website. Anyone can message me if they have questions or want pictures. I would just massage his skin with a coffee oil infused sugar coconut oil scrub every few days followed by a warm wet towel application and combing the black skin away. So happy I could help my dog this way to have a fuller coat. The black skin is not completely gone and the bald spots are smaller but not completely gone so I continue.
