When the temperature is hot cut the fur. You must do this to lessen the risk for heat stroke. I do this every month to my dog because it's hot and this saves money and time because you don't have to groom your dog anymore but you must never shave the dog's fur just cut it short.
Money will buy a fine pomeranian dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail.
Dogs do not sweat like humans do. They regulate their temperature through panting. They sweat through the pads of their feet. Go to a groomer and get them to 40 blade the pads of their feet. CUTTING THE HAIR DOES NOT MAKE THEM LESS HOT! Mother nature made double coated dogs perfect. It is up to us to brush (comb) daily, and go to a groomer. My Pom is groomed professionally every 3 weeks. He doesn't shed, he also is not hot. Please do not tell people to cut their Poms as this is not something that should be done. Common sense must be played out as well. Do not walk them at noon. Use AC. It's like us in a bathing suit on the beach... you're still hot.

Oh my goodness, it is so so so bad for your little one. I am a professional groomer and everyone that comes in and wants their double coated dog shaved (poms, huskies, goldens, etc), I educated and try to talk them out of it. It ruins the hair, it might not grow back, texture and color can change, and without the hair the dog is more hot because the sun hits the skin directly! It also does not help a lick with shedding.

HELP!. Im a first time pom owner, read about all the rules while when it comes to grooming and everything was fine until I had to take a business trip. I left my pom with my husband and he took it to his moms house. The little boy got really really dirty and altho I specifically told them not to give him a bath the old woman decided to give him a bath using human shampoo (!!!!). After she didnt wash it out properly his skin got itchy and she immediately took him to some (I suppose village idiot) groomer that was not well educated at all. She proceeded to give him a buzz cut, cutting his inner coat as well. Mind you, this is a 5 month old puppy. From what I saw in the pictures he looks horrible. Even the fur on his ears is gone. I know you’re not supposed to cut the inner fur and I’ve been crying for the last few hours looking at the abomination of the once beautiful white coat. What do I do, is there any product, oil, remedy, food supplement....ANYTHING that can make his fur grow beautiful again?
